Farah Khan Reveals Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol’s Iconic Gerua Song Cost ₹7 Crore to Shoot in Iceland
Farah Khan has always been known for her larger-than-life choreography and entertaining stories, and her recent vlog gave fans another gem. The filmmaker recalled how the romantic track Gerua from Dilwale, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, turned out to be one of the most expensive songs ever filmed in Bollywood.
In her latest vlog, which featured entrepreneur Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri, Farah spoke about the challenges of shooting in Iceland. The conversation began when Ashneer and Madhuri shared stories from their vacation to the Nordic country. Madhuri mentioned they had been looking for a Hindi song that matched their Iceland pictures. That’s when Farah reminded them — “There is only one Hindi song shot in Iceland, and that’s Gerua.”
Smiling, she added, “Kitna mehnga hai Iceland! Sabse mehngi jagah. We shot with only two actors, and still the budget was ₹7 crore just for that one song.” Both Ashneer and Madhuri nodded in agreement, admitting Iceland was indeed one of the costliest destinations.
A Song That Redefined Romance on Screen
Released in 2015 as part of Rohit Shetty’s film Dilwale, Gerua quickly became an anthem of romance. The breathtaking visuals of Iceland’s waterfalls, black sand beaches, and snow-covered landscapes made it unforgettable. But behind the beauty was a tough shoot — freezing temperatures, logistical challenges, and unpredictable weather.
A behind-the-scenes video uploaded by Red Chillies Entertainment on YouTube showed Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Farah Khan, Rohit Shetty, and the crew battling the harsh climate to create cinematic magic. Despite the hurdles, the song’s dreamy visuals and the sizzling chemistry of SRK and Kajol made Gerua a timeless hit.
Farah Khan’s Vlogging Journey
Farah’s vlog has become just as entertaining as her films. Known for her candid humor and warmth, she often invites celebrities and friends to share stories in her videos. During her Delhi visit for this vlog, she was joined by her cook and vlogging partner, Dilip, as they filmed at Ashneer Grover’s residence.
The Grovers not only spoke about Iceland and Gerua, but also gave Farah a tour of their luxurious bungalow. Ashneer’s mother even prepared a special home-cooked dish for the filmmaker and her team, adding a personal touch to the video.
Dilwale and the Legacy of Gerua
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Dilwale starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon. While the film was known for its mix of romance and action, it was the music that stole hearts. Among all the songs, Gerua stood out, reminding fans once again why SRK and Kajol remain one of Bollywood’s most loved on-screen pairs.
Even years later, Farah Khan’s revelation about the ₹7 crore budget only adds to the song’s legendary status, proving that unforgettable cinema often comes at a grand price.
