Trump Slams Trade, Kerala’s Brain Infection Claims Babies, King Cobra Sparks Panic!

US President Donald Trump calls the India-US trade deal a “one-sided disaster,” while Kerala faces a deadly brain-eating amoebic infection claiming multiple lives. Meanwhile, a giant King Cobra sighting in Dehradun sparks panic as forest officials rush to safely rescue the snake.

India-US Trade Tension: Trump Says Relationship "One-Sided Disaster"

US President Donald Trump recently referred to the India-US trade balance as a "one-sided disaster," alleging that India has promised to reduce tariffs on American products to "nothing." Expressing his sentiments on Truth Social, Trump complained about India's excessive tariffs, saying that American companies cannot sell their products to India because of these tariffs. Trump also pointed out that India imports huge amounts of oil and military goods from Russia, bringing yet another layer of tension to the trade relationship.

The comment comes against the backdrop of delayed trade negotiations and the recent imposition of 50% tariffs on Indian exports. India has not so far responded to Trump's assertions directly, but reports indicate that the tariffs can have a bearing on labor-intensive industries like textiles, gems and jewelry, footwear, leather, shrimp, and others. Experts predict that Indian exports to the US will possibly dip from $87 billion in 2024 to $50 billion by 2026 with potential GDP and employment implications.

Kerala Faces Rare Brain Infection: Two More Lives Lost

Kerala is grappling with a deadly outbreak of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare brain-eating infection. The disease has claimed two more lives, including a three-month-old infant, bringing the death toll to three this month alone. Health officials report 42 cases across the state this year, up from 36 cases and nine deaths in 2024.

Kerala’s Brain Infection Claims

The disease is caused by the Naegleria fowleri amoeba, which exists in fresh water and soil that is stagnant. It is contracted by humans by inhaling through the nose while bathing or swimming in infected water. Symptoms manifest within 5-10 days and range from headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. The infection kills brain tissue, which becomes swollen, and ultimately, in the majority of cases, death, with a mortality rate of 97% worldwide.

Kerala officials started chlorination of wells and ponds in the affected districts and initiated awareness drives to avert more cases. At present, ten patients are being treated at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, two of whom are critical.

Dramatic King Cobra Rescues in Dehradun and Kerala

Two King Cobra sightings have made headlines in India this week. In Bhauwala village, Dehradun, a giant cobra was spotted in the vicinity of a residential house, leaving residents panicking. The forest department was informed, and a rescue squad wrestled to capture the snake that became agitated, attacking rescuers repeatedly. After a harrowing operation, the cobra was safely caught and released into the forest.

In Kerala, forest official G.S. Roshni saved a 14-15 feet King Cobra from a stream at Peppara. The snake weighed nearly 20 kg and was safely relocated by Roshni and her Rapid Response Team. Both instances highlight the need for trained professionals in dealing with human-wildlife conflict situations and maintaining public safety.
