Bollywood is full of behind-the-scenes stories, but few are as charming as the one Shilpa Shetty recently shared in a candid vlog with filmmaker Farah Khan. The actress, who made a glamorous cameo in the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, revealed that a day's shooting was abruptly halted because Farah wasn’t happy with the length of her saree.
The saree that stopped a shoot
“We were shooting and Farah didn’t like the saree’s length, so she called off the shoot,” Shilpa recalled. What could have become a tense moment on set turned warm and human thanks to Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction. Instead of arguing, the superstar reportedly said, “We’ll shoot tomorrow then.”
Perfectionism on set
Farah Khan, known for her meticulous attention to detail, stood by her decision. “I’m a perfectionist,” she laughed, remembering the incident years later. In a lighter note, Farah — who was pregnant with triplets during the shoot — joked about feeling a twinge of envy at Shilpa’s dazzling screen presence.
A ten-second cameo that lasted in memory
Shilpa’s cameo lasts barely ten seconds on screen, but its glamour and charm made it instantly memorable. Fans still talk about that moment as one of the sparkling highlights in a film that introduced Deepika Padukone to Hindi cinema and became a runaway blockbuster with its crazy mix of drama, music, romance and reincarnation-themed revenge.
Shilpa’s journey — then and now
Shilpa Shetty’s career has had many chapters. From her debut in Baazigar (1993) to hits like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Dhadkan and Life In A Metro, she also won the British reality show Big Brother in 2006. After marrying Raj Kundra in 2009, she stepped back to focus on family, later returning with films such as Hungama 2, Nikamma, Sukhee and the web series Indian Police Force. Her approach, she says, has always been content-driven: “I try to stay relevant with whatever I’m doing by choosing interesting content.”
From Bastian Bandra to Ammakai
Outside films, Shilpa and Raj built a reputation in Mumbai’s dining scene with their celebrity-favourite restaurant, Bastian Bandra. Recently the couple announced the Bandra location will close and transform into Ammakai, a specialty South Indian restaurant celebrating comfort food and culinary heritage — a new chapter in an evolving business story.
What’s next
Despite controversies and ups and downs off-screen, Shilpa remains busy: she’s judging reality shows and gearing up for a big-screen return to Kannada cinema after 18 years with KD: The Devil, sharing screen space with Dhruva Sarja, Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi.
