A Star Who Stepped Into A Slum
Divya Khosla Kumar, wife of T-Series head Bhushan Kumar, is leaving behind the glamour of stardom for her upcoming film Ek Chatur Naar. To prepare for her role as a woman from a Lucknow slum, she lived in Badshah Nagar for nearly a month, right next to a foul-smelling gutter. From doing household chores like jhadu, katka, pocha to learning the local dialect, Divya says the experience transformed her as both an actor and a person.
The Director’s Tricks
Director Umesh Shukla, known for 102 Not Out, revealed that the film was shot entirely in real slums to keep the narrative authentic. Sometimes, he wouldn’t even tell Divya about the scene location. “The naala (gutter) scene we made her do, we didn’t inform her beforehand. We just took her there and made her stand at the edge,” he said.
Recalling the incident, Divya admitted: “I was this close to falling into the naala. I was terrified, but I eventually got used to the bad smell.”
Parmeet Sethi’s Witty Take
During a vlog with Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi, Divya shared her slum-life struggles. Listening to her story, Parmeet jokingly remarked:
“When you are fated to do a certain thing, life makes sure to make you do all that in some or the other way, irrespective of who you are.”
His light-hearted dig instantly became a highlight for fans, showing the fun-loving rapport he shares with Archana and their guests.
Neil Nitin Mukesh Joins The Banter
Neil Nitin Mukesh, who plays a wealthy businessman in the film, also joined the fun. While recalling the gutter scene, he teased, “The naala was extremely fresh with fresh garbage,” leaving everyone in splits.
Divya’s Dedication To Her Role
Divya revealed that she not only stayed in the slum but also immersed herself in local culture. She studied the slang of Uttar Pradesh by watching influencers, interacting with staff from the region, and even learning a few cuss words for authenticity. One of her improvised monologues has already caught attention and is going viral.
The Film’s Release
Ek Chatur Naar is a dark comedy-thriller directed by Umesh Shukla, pairing Divya with Neil Nitin Mukesh. The film explores wit, deception, and a cat-and-mouse chase between a slum-dweller and a wealthy businessman. Scheduled to hit theatres on September 12, 2025, the film promises humor, suspense, and raw realism.
