Madharaasi Movie Review – Sivakarthikeyan & AR Murugadoss Deliver Action with Masala
Madharaasi is an action entertainer starring Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, and Vidyut Jammwal in the lead roles. Directed by AR Murugadoss with music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film explores the threat of gun culture and how one man rises to the challenge.
Storyline
The story begins with Virat (Vidyut Jammwal) and Chirag (Shabeer Kallarakkal) plotting to spread gun culture in Tamil Nadu. NIA officer Premnath (Biju Menon) attempts to stop them but fails. He then meets Raghuram (Sivakarthikeyan), a man suffering from delusion disorder, who unexpectedly becomes part of the mission. Alongside Malathi (Rukmini Vasanth), Raghu’s journey intertwines with Premnath’s plan to save the state from chaos.
Performances
Sivakarthikeyan delivers a powerful performance, blending innocence with strength in his action-packed role. Rukmini Vasanth shines with her graceful presence and chemistry with the lead. Vidyut Jammwal and Shabeer excel in action sequences but their character arcs feel underwritten. Biju Menon is reliable as always, but his role lacks freshness.
Direction & Screenplay
AR Murugadoss sets up an intriguing premise with social relevance. While the first half has logical loopholes, the action blocks and emotional backstory hold interest. The interval sequence and some mass moments elevate the film, though predictability and repetitive tropes drag the second half. Compared to his earlier hits, Madharaasi feels uneven but still watchable.
Technical Aspects
Anirudh Ravichander experiments with a “slow poison” music, offering soulful tracks instead of his usual mass numbers. The cinematography by Sudeep Elamon captures night sequences and action scenes effectively. Editing could have been sharper, as the film feels stretched in parts. Action choreography is stylish and impactful, catering to commercial cinema lovers.
Highlights
- Sivakarthikeyan’s unique role and performance
- Stylish action sequences
- Social message against gun culture
- Good emotional moments in first half
Drawbacks
- Predictable and stretched second half
- Underdeveloped villains
- Lack of logical consistency
- Editing could be sharper
Verdict
Madharaasi works in parts – thanks to Sivakarthikeyan’s strong screen presence, sleek action blocks, and a relevant social message. However, its logical loopholes, repetitive screenplay, and underwhelming villain arcs prevent it from becoming a solid action thriller. Still, for fans of commercial masala cinema, it offers enough entertainment to make it a one-time watch.
