Moushumi Chatterjee Once Refused a Bathing Scene With Raaj Kumar, Worked With Amitabh Bachchan, Now a Politician
Bollywood has always been a treasure chest of stories—not just the ones that play out on screen, but also the ones that happen behind the camera. One such gem comes from the 1980s, involving legendary actor Raaj Kumar and the graceful actress Moushumi Chatterjee.
The film Chambal Ki Kassam (1980) was expected to be a blockbuster. With stars like Raaj Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Moushumi Chatterjee, Farida Jalal, Amjad Khan, and Ranjeet in the cast, the hype was huge. But when it released, the film failed to connect with audiences and underperformed at the box office. Still, what survived beyond its fate was a hilarious and heartwarming memory from its sets.
The Bathing Scene Proposal
Years later, on The Kapil Sharma Show, actor Ranjeet recalled an unforgettable incident. The cast was staying at a guest house near a river during the shoot when Raaj Kumar suddenly came up with an idea. In his trademark style, he suggested, “Jaani, why don’t you shoot a scene of Moushumi and me bathing in the river?”
Moushumi was shocked. Without wasting a second, she politely refused, saying, “No, Raaj ji, I don’t know how to swim.”
Not ready to give up, Raaj Kumar reassured her with his signature charm, “Jaani, I will be there with you, why do you worry?”
But Moushumi’s witty sense of humor turned the moment into pure comedy. She looked at him and replied, “If your wig comes out in the river, will you save your wig or me?”
Instead of getting offended, Raaj Kumar laughed so hard that the entire crew joined in. What could have been awkward turned into a light-hearted memory that stayed with everyone for years.
