Nishaanchi Trailer: Anurag Kashyap Brings a Masala Twist with Aaishvary Thackeray’s Double Role

Bollywood fans are in for a treat as filmmaker Anurag Kashyap steps away from his signature dark, realistic dramas to deliver a full-blown masala entertainer, Nishaanchi. The much-awaited trailer has dropped, showcasing an engaging mix of action, romance, betrayal, and old-school Bollywood emotions — complete with maa ka pyaar.

The film also marks the Bollywood debut of Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, who shines in a challenging double role.

Aaishvary Thackeray’s Double Role Debut

At the heart of Nishaanchi are twin brothers Babloo and Dabloo, both played by Aaishvary Thackeray. While they share identical looks, their personalities could not be more different.

  • Babloo is ambitious, rebellious, and drawn into the world of crime.
  • Dabloo is shy, sensitive, and grounded in family values.

Their contrasting lives collide in a storm of brotherhood, betrayal, love, and redemption — themes that define this cinematic saga.

A Story Set in Uttar Pradesh

Set in the small towns of Uttar Pradesh in the early 2000s, the trailer opens with Babloo’s dream of starting his own gang with his brother Dabloo and girlfriend Rinku (played by Vedika Pinto).

But their world spirals when:

  • Babloo, Dabloo, and Rinku attempt a bank heist.
  • Dabloo backs out at the last moment, torn between morality and loyalty.
  • Babloo is arrested — betrayed, perhaps, by his uncle Ambika Chacha (Kumud Mishra), who had once deceived their father too.

As Babloo fights to establish power inside prison, Dabloo struggles to protect his mother (Monika Pawar) and Rinku outside. The story teases a gripping ride through crime, family, and redemption.

Anurag Kashyap on His “Most Cinematic” Film

Known for cult films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, and Dev D, Anurag Kashyap calls Nishaanchi his most “cinematic” project yet.

“Nishaanchi is a story I’ve carried with me for years. It’s my most cinematic film with a classic story at its centre — emotion, betrayal, action, everything I grew up loving in Hindi films.”

Cast and Performances

Apart from Aaishvary’s debut, Nishaanchi features:

  • Vedika Pinto as Rinku, Babloo’s love interest, who appears innocent but harbors fierce boldness.
  • Monika Panwar in a strong supporting role.
  • Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra in pivotal characters that add depth to the narrative.

Aaishvary Thackeray on Playing Twins

“Playing twins who are complete opposites challenged me in every way — emotionally, physically, and as an actor. Acting and music are like Babloo and Dabloo — two distinct parts of my personality that balance and complete each other. I’m nervous, but also excited, to finally share this world with everyone.”

Production and Release

Nishaanchi is presented by Amazon MGM Studios India and produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures and Flip Films. Written by Anurag Kashyap, Prasoon Mishra, and Ranjan Chandel, the film promises to mix classic masala storytelling with Kashyap’s unique cinematic style.

📅 Nishaanchi will release in theatres worldwide on September 19, 2025.
